Circuit of Wales set to house new extreme sports destination

The Extreme Sports Company has agreed a deal to construct a new action sports destination at the Circuit of Wales multi-purpose infrastructure project.

The facilities will be added to the wider £425m (€496.7m/$526.2m) motor racing circuit and technology park development in South Wales, handing officials a boost after it suffered from a series of delays in development.

Proposed action sports facilities at the site include mountain bike trails, a BMX Park, indoor skiing, trampolining, skatepark, virtual reality zone, surf park and live music stages, in addition to two hotels and a campsite.

According to the latest projections, once complete, the Circuit of Wales site will attract 750,000 visitors each year, as well as inject around £50m into the Welsh economy per annum.

“With the growth and interest we are seeing in our sector, it is fantastic to announce this world-leading Extreme destination, combining a never before seen collection of sports, entertainment and leisure experiences,” Extreme chairman and chief executive, Alistair Gosling, said.

Martin Whitaker, chief executive for the Circuit of Wales added: “The Circuit aims to provide much more than a racing facility; it will be a 365-day leisure and business destination. The support we have received to date from the racing, automotive and investment communities emphasises the Circuit’s long-term role in boosting tourism, creating jobs and diversifying the local economy.”
