Sacramento-based SunSystem Technology awarded Golden 1 Center contract

Independent solar services provider SunSystem Technology (SST) has been awarded the contract for commercial operations and maintenance services at Golden 1 Center, the home arena of NBA basketball franchise the Sacramento Kings.

SST installed the 700-kilowatt photovoltaic solar system that helps provide power to Golden 1 Center, which opened last year. It is hoped that the contract will help ensure the arena’s system operations are maintained and that the system’s energy production goals are met.

“SST is a Sacramento-based company and Golden 1 Center is a very significant addition to the city and our community,” SST chief executive Derek Chase said. “It is an honour to be associated with a project of this importance to our hometown, and a great source of pride for our teams who worked on the installation, as well as for our O&M team in charge of its care.”

The state-of-the-art, 17,500-capacity Golden 1 Center staged its first NBA game in October. It is said to be the first professional sports facility to be completely powered by solar energy.

Golden 1 Center also became the first indoor venue to be recognised with LEED Platinum certification, the highest-possible award for environmentally-conscious buildings.

SST also provides operations and maintenance services for the Staples Center and Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
