Villarreal rebrands El Madrigal as Estadio de la Cerámica

Spanish LaLiga football club Villarreal has renamed its home stadium, El Madigral, as the ‘Estadio de la Cerámica’.

Villarreal unveiled the new moniker, which translates as the Ceramic Tile Stadium, ahead of the 1-1 draw against Barcelona last (Sunday) night.

A host of local ceramics companies have signed up to sponsor the stadium project and will be granted brand exposure throughout the facility.

Pamesa, Porcelanosa and Argenta Cerámica have been named as main sponsors, while Tau Cerámica, Bestile, Esmalglass-Itaca and Colorobbia will serve as official sponsors.

The stadium’s South Stand will now feature a façade that will be wholly covered with a high-gloss yellow porcelain stoneware to represent the colour of Villarreal’s home kit.

The façade will feature thermal insulation, as well as sun and acoustic protection. Two thousand square metres of the stoneware have been placed within the ventilated façade system. More than 500 light points will illuminate the front of the façade, with a digitally controlled system to feature various colours and effects.

The stadium’s surroundings have also been transformed with the building of a new square that features ceramic materials on the pavement and sidewalks. It is hoped the square will serve as a meeting point for supporters ahead of games, with a number of fan activities to be organised.

The 25,000-capacity stadium was inaugurated in 1923 under the name of Campo del Villarreal before becoming El Madrigal two years later.
