Millwall stadium land sale meeting postponed

English League One third-tier football club Millwall faces a longer wait to find out the future of its stadium after a land sale meeting regarding a development project in the area was postponed.

Lewisham Council has voted to buy land next to the stadium by compulsory order and had been due to confirm the decision yesterday (Wednesday). However, the BBC reports that the meeting has now been put on hold, with the authority yet to reschedule.

The New Bermondsey development is set to create up to 2,400 homes, community facilities and a new overground station for the football stadium.

However, the club said that if the project were to go ahead, the team faces the prospect of having to locate a new home stadium.

Millwall chairman John Berylson has previously spoken about his own plans to develop the land and build various facilities in order to help produce long-term income for the club.
