Iconic ‘Cowshed’ stand returns to Huddersfield stadium

English Championship football club Huddersfield Town has agreed a deal with one of its sponsors to name part of its John Smith’s Stadium after the Cowshed stand at its old Leeds Road ground.

John Smith’s Stadium’s South Stand is sponsored by professional and legal services company Chadwick Lawrence. Starting with Thursday evening’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion, the stand will be officially known as the Chadwick Lawrence Cowshed.

The Cowshed stand was an iconic part of the old Leeds Road stadium, which Huddersfield left behind in 1994.

The West Yorkshire club’s game against league-leaders Brighton has been assigned ‘retro game’ status, with fans encouraged to wear their favourite shirt from over the years. The renaming of the South Stand ties in with the initiative.

“I know how fondly the Cowshed is remembered,” Huddersfield commercial director Sean Jarvis said. “Now we have our own Cowshed in the Chadwick Lawrence Stand, which has made a huge difference to the match day atmosphere at the John Smith’s Stadium this season.

“Renaming the stand on Huddersfield Town match days was a great idea from Peter (Harling, partner at Chadwick Lawrence) and I’d like to thank the Chadwick Lawrence team for their support.”

Huddersfield has enjoyed an impressive season so far and currently sits in fifth place in the Championship.
