Nürnberg fans join forces with sponsor to fund renaming of stadium

Supporters of German Bundesliga football club Nürnberg have linked up with Consorsbank, the naming rights-holder to the team’s stadium, to rename the venue in honour of club legend Max Morlock.

Although fans have been pushing for the renaming for some time, they have so far been unsuccessful due to the financial demands of the City of Nürnberg, the owner of the stadium.

However, fans have agreed a crowdfunding partnership with Consorsbank to push ahead with the project, with supporters agreeing to raise €800,000 ($859,800/$690,400) to fund the re-naming. The total, which represents one quarter of the required amount, must be reached between March 31 May 14.

Consorsbank acquired the naming rights to the 50,000-capacity stadium in a three-year deal.
