Queens Park Rangers chief executive Lee Hoos has revealed that the English Championship football club is exploring a number of options for a new stadium, with a new ground on the site of Linford Christie Stadium in west London considered a possibility.
A report by West London Sport yesterday (Wednesday) claimed that QPR would be interested in developing a new 30,000-seat stadium amid continued problems over the proposed regeneration of Old Oak, a site the club had earmarked as a potential development spot.
Linford Christie Stadium is used by the Thames Valley Harriers athletics club.
Speaking to QPR’s official website, Hoos said: “We are looking at all possible options to secure the future of the club in Hammersmith & Fulham and benefit the community.
“A potential partnership with an athletics club such as Thames Valley Harriers to create a new community stadium – and an adjacent athletics track – could bring huge benefits to both clubs, as well as to the local community that is our home.
“Before putting forward any formal proposal for a new community stadium we would consult fans, local residents, schools, charities and others to see how best we could achieve those aims.”
QPR stressed that the idea is at a “very early stage”. The club has been forced to explore alternative sites to Old Oak after problems arose concerning land acquisition and the wider regeneration of the site.
