Zenit Arena attracts mixed reviews after opening to public

The Zenit Arena, one of several venues that will be used during Russia’s hosting of the 2018 Fifa World Cup national team football tournament, has opened to the public for the first time.

According to the ESPNFC.com website, the 68,000-capacity stadium played host to 10,000 local citizens, who were invited to view the stadium free-of-charge.

However, while some visitors were impressed by the design of the new venue, others remained critical of the facility’s $738m (€692.6m/£588.8m) price tag.

Construction work at the Zenit Arena has been going on for almost a decade, with developers having suffered a series of set-backs, the latest being the requirement to fix vibrations that impacted the venue’s retractable pitch.
