Game-day experience to be enhanced at US college venues

Sidearm Sports, which provides websites to over 940 collegiate athletic programmes in the US, has partnered with Bleachr, a digital app developer with patented in-stadium technology.

The agreement will seek to further enhance the game-day experience at college sports venues across the US. It marks Bleachr’s first foray into college sports.

Bleachr’s patented geo-fenced technology amplifies the live game-day experience and helps teams engage its fan base. Its features include connecting fans in-venue through friends notifications, messaging and a chat stream similar to that of social media website Facebook.

Bleachr’s technology also allows fans to order food and beverages from their seats, win fan challenges, earn and redeem rewards and connect directly with the team.

Rich Kinzler, managing director of business development at Bleachr, said: “Bleachr couldn’t find a more perfect partner to enter collegiate athletics. Together with Sidearm, we will reach the mobile-first generation and provide fans with features that enrich the game-day experience through their mobile devices, creating an experience they can’t get from TV. Teams have a new direct connection to the fans that provides the opportunity for big, real-time data and fan analytics.”

In other news, Oregon State University has launched its own ‘fan experience committee’ following the appointment of Scott Barnes as its new athletic director. The committee will seek to enhance the venue experience at Oregon State’s Reser Stadium, Gill Coliseum and Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Twenty volunteer members, whether donors, season ticket-holders, single-game purchasers, students, alumni or community members, will be picked to meet and discuss potential fan engagement initiatives.
