Bucks’ new arena to feature largest-of-its-kind scoreboard

The under-construction new home arena for the Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball franchise is to be fitted with the largest equilateral centre-hung scoreboard in the league.

The team has partnered with video display and scoreboard specialist Daktronics to fit the new arena, which is scheduled to open in time for the 2018 NBA season, with its state-of-the-art displays.

Daktronics will supply the arena with a custom-designed 52-display super system featuring more than 16 million LEDs. Additional outdoor displays on the arena’s northwest corner and in the new parking structure will also be fitted.

Featuring 3,922 square feet of video displays, the centre-hung scoreboard is set to be the largest in the NBA and will cover three-quarters of the court below it. The scoreboard will comprise four main displays, each measuring approximately 25 feet high by 29 feet wide. Underbelly displays will also be included to appeal to supporters located closer to the court.

The display will feature live video, instant replays, statistics, graphics and animations, sponsorship messages and other announcements.

In addition, Daktronics has worked with arena designers to develop a 360-degree LED ribbon display to be incorporated into the seating fascia of the facility to provide an immersive experience for supporters.

“Daktronics is the best in the business at creating that ‘wow’ factor for fans in all corners of the building,” Bucks president Peter Feigin said. “Our ownership is committed to providing an absolutely world-class experience for every guest, and we’re beyond excited for what this digital system will do for the fan experience in our building and throughout the surrounding development.

“The creative vision and expertise of Daktronics working together with our partners at Icon Venue Group and our arena design team is going to make this venue the new gold-standard for how technology and design can create an unbelievable experience for event-goers.”
