Orlando City sells out 2017 opening match

United States Major League Soccer franchise Orlando City has sold out of tickets for its first match at the new Orlando City Stadium within hours of going on general sale.

The game on March 5, against New York City FC, will be filled to capacity with 25,500 supporters due to be in attendance.

The football franchise also sold out of single-game tickets for its home game against LA Galaxy on April 5.

The Florida-based MLS franchise spent its first two seasons playing at Camping World Stadium, but will move to its own venue in downtown Orlando this year.

Construction on Orlando City Stadium began in October 2014, with the stadium featuring a natural grass playing surface and four-sided canopy roof and North America’s first full, safe-standing supporters’ section.

During its inaugural season in 2015, Orlando City averaged 32,847 fans at its games, with 62,510 showing up for its first MLS match against New York City FC in the same year.

The following season, the average fell to 31,324 in 2016 with both seasons holding the second highest crowd average, behind Washington’s Seattle Sounders.

Single-game tickets for the 15 remaining 2017 Orlando City games are still available, with priority access to tickets for LionNation members through a reserved allotment on a first come, first served basis.
