Zenit given green light for move to new stadium

Russian Premier League football club Zenit St. Petersburg has been cleared to move into its new stadium.

The 62,000-capacity Stadium St. Petersburg is scheduled to host its first Zenit game on April 20, when the title-chasing club faces FC Ural.

Zenit’s home match against Anzhi Makhachkala tomorrow (Saturday) will be the team’s final game at its current Petrovsky Stadium (pictured) home.

The Russian Football Union and football’s global governing body, Fifa, gave Zenit the green light to begin playing matches at the new venue.

Stadium St. Petersburg is one of a number of venues that has been selected to stage 2018 Fifa World Cup games during Russia’s hosting of the national team tournament.
