LA 2024 releases Valley Sports Park renderings

The team behind the bid to stage the 2024 summer Olympic Games in the US city of Los Angeles has released new renderings of Valley Sport Parks, one of its would-be venues for the multi-sport showpiece.

LA 2024 released a visual of the sports park in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, with capabilities to host dressage, jumping, eventing and Paralympic dressage, along with Olympic and Paralympic shooting and the canoe slalom.

The Valley Sports Park comprises temporary facilities which will accompany the existing venues in the city’s bid to host the Games.

The Valley is home to 40 per cent of the LA population, and would be the first time the Games would take place in that area of the city.

LA 2024 also said that the facilities would be connected to the public transit system, and lie within “a single, integrated secure perimeter where all attendees will be able to walk easily from one venue to another in a safe, festival atmosphere.”

Each of LA 2024’s Sports Parks will include dining, music, sponsor activations, sports showcases and celebration live sites for event and non-event ticket holders to enjoy. The ticketing model, which is said to connect nearby fans with available tickets in real time, will “ensure every athlete in every sport competes in front of full stadiums with passionate, engaged supporters.”

LA 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman said: “We are thrilled to bring the Games to the Valley for the first time, paving the way for a new Olympic and Paralympic legacy for nearly two million Angelenos.

“LA is the right choice for 2024 because our city can host the Games without having to build any new permanent venues or an Olympic and Paralympic Village. These virtual tours of our world-class venues demonstrate that LA 2024 is prepared to offer the lowest-risk and sustainable solution for the future of the Olympic Movement and an unforgettable Olympic festival experience for everyone in 2024.”

Los Angeles faces competition from the French capital of Paris to stage the 2024 Games. The International Olympic Committee will announce the winning bid in September.
