Tottenham’s stadium capacity to surpass 61,000

English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur has received approval from Haringey Council to increase the capacity of its new stadium to 61,559.

Tottenham said an improved layout design has enabled the club to add a number of seats around the venue, which is being built next to White Hart Lane, the club’s current ground.

A further 500 seats will be added to the new stadium’s single-tier South Stand, which will now have a capacity of 17,500.

Once complete, Tottenham’s new stadium, which does not yet have a name, will be the largest club football venue in London. Tottenham’s North London rival Arsenal currently has the biggest club-specific stadium in the capital, with a capacity of 60,432.

Tottenham confirmed last month that the club would be playing all of its home games at Wembley Stadium next season while work is carried out on the new ground.

The club had agreed a deal to relocate to Wembley for the 2017-18 campaign, but would not officially confirm the move until it had received assurances that its new stadium would be ready in time for the following season.

The final game at White Hart Lane will take place this Sunday, when Tottenham host Manchester United.
