Raiders set June 2020 completion date for new Las Vegas stadium

NFL American football team the Oakland Raiders has announced that its new stadium in Las Vegas is likely to be ready in time for the 2020 season.

Although currently based in California, earlier this year the team confirmed that it would not only relocate to Las Vegas, but also construct a new stadium in the Nevada city.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, work on the 65,000-capacity venue will commence in January of next year and will be finished by June 2020, three months before the start of the 2020 season.

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority is due to discuss the ambitious 30-month plan at a meeting later this week. The new stadium project is expected to cost a total of $1.9bn (€1.7bn/£1.5bn).

The venue will be located on a 62-acre site at Interstate 15 and Russell Road, which was purchased by the team for $77.5m earlier this month.
