Eden Park to launch ‘Our Neighbourhood’ exhibition to tell stadium’s story

Auckland’s Eden Park is to launch an exhibition entitled ‘Our Neighbourhood’ to showcase all that is great about the 50,000-capacity stadium.

The exhibition will start on May 28 and will feature approximately 100 photos displayed across the stadium.

It is hoped ‘Our Neighbourhood’ will tell the overall story of Eden Park beyond the sports events it hosts, and demonstrate the passion which is associated with the venue through the eyes of all involved – staff, fans, celebrities and neighbours.

The exhibition will also seek to increase awareness of Eden Park’s stature and presence in the community and celebrate the stadium’s successes and achievements. Ambassadors and advocates will be encouraged to spread their stories of the stadium.

To achieve these outcomes, a campaign has been created that features the many aspects of the Eden Park story. Told through people, this campaign will feature the following:

  • Staff of Eden Park (volunteers, grounds staff and corporate)
  • Locals of Kingsland and the surrounding area
  • Businesses of Kingsland and the surrounding area
  • International, national and regional sports-related people/celebrities
  • Those who embrace the park as regular attendees of Eden Park (the fans)

How did the exhibition come about?

While visiting his favourite café in the neighbourhood, Nick Sautner, Eden Park’s general manager – commercial, was captivated by an exhibition featuring the faces and people of Kingsland, by local photographer Lee Howell. Nick wanted to extend this project into Eden Park to tell the park’s own stories.

And so ‘Our Neighbourhood’ was formed – a partnership between Lee Howell, the team at Eden Park and those who embrace the stadium.

Background and pending announcement

For several months the Eden Park team has been working behind the scenes on the ‘Our Neighbourhood’ exhibition which will be launched on May 28 between 10am and 2pm.

A social media ‘teaser’ campaign commenced last week in the lead up to the official announcement on May 15.

Stadium staff are encouraging people to keep an eye out for Eden Park’s online posts and encouraging them to like and share.

As part of the exhibition, a Golden Ticket promotion will encourage people to share their Eden Park stories to win a 12-month membership to Eden Park for four.

More details about the official media event and launch will follow.
