Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena boosts security after terrorist attacks

The Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England, has introduced a number of new security measures after the recent terrorist attacks in London and Manchester.

Last month, 22 people were killed and scores more injured after a suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena following a concert by US pop star Ariana Grande.

A further eight people died last Saturday after three men drove into people on London Bridge in the English capital, before stabbing people.

In response, the Motorpoint Arena has put in place a new bag policy where those attending events at the venue can only take handbags or small bags measuring a maximum of 35cm x 40cm x 19cm into the arena.

In addition, all event attendees will be searched upon arrival, with organisers at the venue urging people to arrive earlier than usual to allow time for the security checks.

The Motorpoint Arena said in a statement: “We’re unable to publically discuss all of the specific security details for each show as this is potentially detrimental to the measures, but there are some important changes we need customers to be aware of as they will be directly affected by them.

“A new bag policy has been introduced. Lockers will no longer be available for use. Customers that need to bring a bag for their medical requirements should contact the venue in advance so that we can accommodate them.

“Customers are asked to arrive at the Arena as early as possible and to allow much more time for security checks. These extra checks will include full searches of all customers and handbags of the permitted size and will be conducted outside the venue.”

The venue added: “We always take the safety and security of all our customers very seriously and although we have robust security measures in place, we encourage everyone attending events at our venue to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to a member of our security staff or the police.”
