China Mobile Beijing, Huawei map out plans for smart stadium

China Mobile Beijing has joined forces with Huawei to launch a new pilot project for a smart stadium in the Chinese capital of Beijing.

According to Digitimes.com, the facility will be located at Beijing South Railway Station (pictured) and be based on multi-access edge computing (MEC).

Huawei will provide its MEC CloudEdge solution to the project, which in turn will enable China Mobile Beijing to integrate certain video content sources into the edge gateway of the stadium.

Customers of China Mobile Beijing that visit the stadium will be able to watch videos by scanning a QR code which lets them subscribe to packages.

The new project comes after Huawei recently announced that it had linked up with 13 industry partners to establish a new, virtual MEC ecosystem collaborative circle.

Companies that have signed up to the scheme include China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Communications Standards Association, China Computer Federation, Global System for Mobile Communications Association, 3rd Generation Partnership Project, European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Industrial Internet Consortium, Intel, ARM, Trend Micro, and iQiyi.
