England’s Edgbaston cricket stadium has signed a commercial partnership with Abacus Lighting amid a bumper summer of events for the Birmingham venue.
Abacus Lighting will service and maintain Edgbaston’s floodlights and will benefit from stadium branding as part of the agreement.
The company fitted the stadium’s first permanent floodlights back in 2011 as part of a £32m (€35.7m/$41.6m) redevelopment project, and recently carried out a full service of all five lighting masts.
Last month, Edgbaston hosted five matches during the International Cricket Council’s Champions Trophy one-day international event. In the coming weeks, the venue will stage England’s first Day/Night Test match, as well as the T20 Blast Finals Day.
“We are delighted to be enhancing our longstanding relationship with Edgbaston through the agreement to be ‘sole lighting provider’,” Camilla Wigmore, operations director for Abacus Lighting, said.
“We are proud to have designed, manufactured and installed the iconic Edgbaston lighting system in 2011 and are pleased to be entering into a long-term agreement to maintain the system on behalf of Warwickshire CCC. We wish Edgbaston and Warwickshire CCC every success with the forthcoming season and look forward to the spectacle of the first Day/Night Investec Test match in the UK.”
Next summer, Edgbaston will host England’s Test match against India, a Twenty20 international against Australia and the T20 Blast Finals Day once more. In 2019, the ground will stage five matches at the Cricket World Cup along with the return of the Ashes Series.
