Hotel operator H-Hotels has announced that it is to open a new hotel at Borussia-Park, the home stadium of German Bundesliga top-tier football club Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Due to open in the autumn of 2018, the four-star facility will have a total of 131 fully-furnished rooms.
The hotel forms part of a wider partnership between H-Hotels and the football club, which will cover at least the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
H-Hotels will now serve as the team’s official sleeve sponsor and benefit from a branding presence on Borussia players’ shirt sleeves from the start of the new Bundesliga season.
In addition, from 2017-18, H-Hotels will upgrade to become a premium partner of Mönchengladbach, ahead of the opening of the new hotel at Borussia-Park.
Thomas Querl, chief financial officer at H-Hotels, said: “The sporting partnership is a logical development and a perfect addition to our cooperation.”
Stephan Schippers, chief executive of Borussia, added: “We are very pleased that we have been able to win our strategic partner in H-hotels for the continuous further development of Borussia-Park.”
Opened in July 2004, Borussia-Park has a total capacity of 54,057, of which 16,145 is standing-room-only. However, when the venue is used to stage national football team matches, the standing area is converted into temporary seating, which in turn brings the overall seating capacity to 46,249.
Borussia-Park was the largest stadium in the Bundesliga to miss out on staging matches when Germany played host to the Fifa World Cup national team football tournament in 2006. The German team lost in the semi-final to eventual winner Italy, which beat France on penalties in the final to secure its fourth World Cup.
