Bury signs new naming rights partner for Gigg Lane

English League One football club Bury has agreed a deal for energy consultancy The Energy Check to become the new naming rights partner for its Gigg Lane home stadium.

Terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed, but Bury has confirmed that the arrangement represents a record deal for the club.

The venue will now be known as ‘The Energy Check Stadium at Gigg Lane’ and the name change will come into effect immediately ahead of Bury’s home EFL Cup match against Sunderland this (Thursday) evening.

David Winton, chief executive of The Energy Check, said: “We are delighted to be partnered with Bury as the official stadium sponsor. The stadium has been here since the club formed back in 1885 and is steeped in history so it is with great pride we are associated with this venue and this brilliant club.

“We look forward to seeing the team succeed this season and beyond.”

As part of the agreement, The Energy Check will work with the club to deliver energy reductions through a number of behavioural changes, energy efficiency measures and renewable energy technology.

In addition, the consultancy will focus on also on providing a service to Bury fans and look to incentivise energy switching via the business.

Bury chairman Stewart Day added: “I am delighted that we have agreed on a deal with The Energy Check on our Stadium, [Bury chief executive] Karl Evans and [Bury commercial director] Matt Caren have worked extremely hard in getting another record breaking deal for the club and it just once again shows the progression we are making both on and off the field.

“There are a number of other exciting new partnership deals to be announced shortly and this will help ourselves continue to grow as we look to have a successful season.”

Bury beat Walsall 1-0 in the club’s first match of the 2017-18 League One season.
