Atlanta Falcons fans can avoid expensive transport and car parking by storing their bicycle for free at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
With the $1.6bn (£1.2bn/€1.4bn), 71,000-capacity arena to open this weekend, Mercedes-Benz Stadium has teamed up with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition to provide a free bike valet service for anyone attending Falcons NFL games and Atlanta United MLS matches.
The service, operated by Two Wheel Valet, will be available for two hours before kickoff, and an hour after full time.
Cyclists simply need to drop their bike off at a designated point, with no booking required.
A spokesperson for the Mercedes-Benz Stadium said: “The valet will utilise a digital check-in service for cyclists to quickly and efficiently check their bikes in.
“When dropping off their bikes, cyclists simply provide their phone number, and they will be sent a text that includes a secure claim ID and the time that the valet will close.
“Helmets, lights, bags, and locks can all stay on the bikes, making bike parking easy, fast, and secure.”
Bike-valet services are increasingly being deployed at stadiums, universities, real estate developments, and events to encourage shifts toward bicycling as a transportation mode.
“We started offering bike valet during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and we’re proud to see this tradition continued with our newest sports venue,” said Rebecca Serna, Atlanta Bicycle Coalition executive director. “Hopefully this trend will spread to other Atlanta institutions wanting to give their patrons better transportation options.”
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host its first major event on Saturday when the Falcons face Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game.
