Esports-specific Blizzard Arena officially opens in Los Angeles

Blizzard Entertainment, a video game developer, has officially opened its esports-specific Blizzard Arena in Burbank, California.

The 450-capacity venue in Los Angeles is custom-designed to accommodate top esports competitors and their fans, with events already lined up with esports leagues Hearthstone and Overwatch.

The arena will be able to broadcast multiple events through its numerous sound stages, control rooms and player lounges throughout the facility.

The on-site Blizzard store will stock a rotating selection of gear and goods depending on the event taking place at the time.

The Overwatch Contenders Playoffs are set to be held at the Blizzard Arena from October 7-8 and will serve as the grand opening event.

The Summer Championship for the Hearthstone Championship Tour will take place over the October 13weekend with $250,000 prize money on the line. The players left standing will be the final entrants in the Hearthstone World Championship, scheduled for early 2018.

In addition, when the Overwatch League launches later this year, Blizzard Arena Los Angeles will be the home for the inaugural season.

Last month, Disney revealed plans to open a dedicated esports arena in the Floridian city of Orlando next year. The new facility will measure in at 300,000sq ft and boast a total capacity of 8,000 seats, as well as being fully equipped to host various esports events.
