MLB’s Cardinals planning hangout area at Busch Stadium

Major League Baseball team the St. Louis Cardinals is to set up a ‘mingling’ area at its Busch Stadium ballpark after removing a raft of seats from the venue, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The newspaper said that the area would be similar to spaces at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, and Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

The area will be available to all fans and will include bars and open spaces from which supporters can watch the action.

The Post-Dispatch said an official announcement on the project, along with naming rights for the space, would be announced later this winter. It would open in time for the 2018 MLB season.

Busch Stadium opened in 2006 and has a capacity of 45,000. The Cardinals are its only tenants.

In October, the Cardinals partnered with Loews Hotels to build accommodation as part of its Ballpark Village expansion project, a mixed-use dining and entertainment district development adjacent to Busch Stadium.
