Danish ice hockey stadium renamed Bitcoin Arena

Saxo Bank Arena, home to Danish ice hockey club Rungsted Seier Capital, has changed its name to Bitcoin Arena.

The move comes after Niklas Nikolajsen, chief executive at Bitcoin Suisse, took the position of the club’s chief sponsor. Bitcoin Suisse entered into a three-year sponsorship agreement on Thursday.

While the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the Bitsonline website claims that several reports point to an unpublished seven figure sum, in US dollars.

The agreement will kick off on December 27 when the official renaming will take place.

The Bitcoin Suisse blog read: “At the event a new centre logo of the arena, a massive nine-metre diameter ice-covered gold and silver Bitcoin, will be unveiled.”

The collaboration with Bitcoin Suisse extends to other initiatives with Rungsted Seier Capital, with five different competitions to be launched for fans to win 0.1 BTC.

In addition, Bitcoin, Etherum and Bitcoin Cash will be accepted as a form of payment at the stadium’s main bar.

Nikolajsen also wants to move paying team players using the cryptocurrency, which one player already does. As a part of the sponsorship deal, Nikolaj Rosenthal will become the only professional sports personality to receive his salary in Bitcoin.
