Dozens of fans were injured after a glass barrier collapsed during a national team football match at the Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait on Friday.
Omani supporters rushed to greet their team after a 5-4 win on penalties against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup final.
However, according to the Kuna news agency, as supporters moved towards the pitch, this caused a safety barrier to collapse and fans to fall forward, leaving at least 40 hurt.
In a post on Twitter, the Kuwait Football Association said some supporters had suffered “minor injuries”, with a number being taken to hospital for treatment.
The national governing body also posted images of Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah visit the injured in hospital.
Kuwaiti authorities have now launched an investigation into the incident.
