TheStadiumBusiness Awards spotlight: Leicester Tigers

Premiership rugby union club Leicester Tigers has spoken of its pride at being nominated in the Fan Experience category for this year’s TheStadiumBusiness Awards.

Leicester has been recognised for its Junior Tigers Club and JTC Takeover Day initiatives.

The Junior Tigers Club offers a membership for fans under the age of 16, and provides supporters with a VIP area at Welford Road on match days. Here, young fans are able to engage in activities, games and meet-and-greets with Tigers players.

The Junior Tigers Club Takeover Day gives young fans the chance to sample what it is like being a reporter, stadium announcer or kitman on match days at Welford Road.

“Coming to a match day at Welford Road is much more than the rugby and the Junior Tigers Club has continued to grow in popularity every season,” Dom McGeever, Leicester’s marketing and promotions executive responsible for the Junior Tigers Club, said.

“There are more than 40,000 members who receive e-newsletters, competitions, mascot places and money-cannot-buy experiences. They include our Junior Tigers Club Takeover Day, when we give young members the chance to take on matchday roles around the ground.

“This year’s Takeover Day will be take place when Tigers take on Northampton Saints on April 14. To be recognised alongside some of the world’s biggest sporting venues is something we’re all proud of at Welford Road.”

Ian Nuttall, TheStadiumBusiness founder, added: “TheStadiumBusiness Awards is about recognising leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities globally.

“Our expert panel have come up with an amazing shortlist of nominees for these categories and we think it’s going to be tough for our judging panel to choose who should win.”

TheStadiumBusiness Awards’ Fan Experience category recognises teams and venues that deliver consistently outstanding levels of service and fan experience for customers.

Leicester has been nominated alongside Sydney Cricket Ground, Optus Stadium, SunTrust Park/Atlanta Braves and EverBank Field/Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 2018 awards ceremony takes place on June 12 at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
