Industry appointments round-up: April 21-27

A round-up of key appointments from within the sports and events industries over the past week.

Johanna Byrane has joined Twickenham as head of business development across the venue’s conference and events business. Byrane has worked for Twickenham (pictured) in the past and rejoins the stadium following a 12-year absence. Byrane joins as Twickenham prepares for the launch of its iconic East Stand later this year.

John Feehan has stepped down from his role as chief executive of rugby union’s Six Nations and the British & Irish Lions with immediate effect. Feehan had led both organisations for 16 years.

The International Olympic Committee has appointed vice-president Ugur Erdener to lead a team of Evaluation Commission members that will determine the host of the 2022 Youth Olympic Games in Africa. Erdener is also the president of World Archery and the Turkish Olympic Committee.

Derek Chang has been named as chief executive of the NBA basketball league’s China division. Chang will take up the role on June 1 and work from the league’s Beijing office, overseeing its development in China. He will report to NBA deputy commissioner and chief operating officer Mark Tatum.

Ian Maxwell has been appointed as the Scottish Football Association’s new chief executive. Maxwell will take up the position at the end of the season and will join from Premiership club Partick Thistle, where he currently serves as managing director.

Fan engagement specialist InCrowd has appointed fan marketing expert Dan Lipman as the new business director of FanScore. Lipman joins from mass participation event organiser Human Race Ltd. FanScore’s business division uses technology and data solutions to help sports audience owners to better know, understand and monetise their audiences.

World Rugby has appointed Dan Payne to the position of chief executive of the Rugby Americas regional body. Payne joins World Rugby from USA Rugby, where he spent three years working as chief executive.
