Pitch trays move into position at new Tottenham stadium

Tottenham Hotspur has begun moving the sliding pitch trays into position at its new stadium with the installation of the NFL pitch now complete.

The retractable pitch has been designed, engineered, built and installed by SCX, a Sheffield-based engineering company.

As well as serving as the home of Tottenham, the new stadium will host NFL American football games on an annual basis. The stadium is due to open to shortly after the start of the Premier League season in August.

Back in May, the trays were successfully rolled out at the stadium in a move that SCX described at the time as a “massive milestone”.

With the stadium set to have a dual hosting purpose, a smooth transition between playing surfaces is required. The huge trays are each made up of 33 smaller trays.

Tottenham’s first home match at the new stadium will be against Liverpool on September 15. Its home match against Fulham on August 18 will be played at Wembley – where the club spent the 2017-18 season – to allow finishing touches to be made at the new ground.
