Real Sociedad seeks start-ups for smart stadium project

Spanish LaLiga football club Real Sociedad has announced details of an initiative whereby it will work with a number of start-up companies to develop a new ‘smart stadium’.

Designed by GSIC, the ‘Sport Thinkers Smart Stadium’ acceleration program launched earlier this month and invites technology-based start-ups to submit ideas as to how the club can improve facilities at its Anoeta Stadium home.

The venue is currently undergoing reconstruction and the club is seeking ways as to how it can modernise the facility to enhance fan experience, safety and sustainability.

Registration for applications is open until September 21 and the club will select a shortlist of 50 entrants, before whittling this down to 25 and then the final roster of 11 companies to work on the project.

Real Sociedad intends to complete this selection process by mid-October.

From the week commencing November 5, all winning companies will engage in an immersion experience with the club, enabling them to adapt their solutions for the Anoeta Stadium.

Following this, the club will stage mentoring sessions with experts in various areas of the sector over a three-month period, while winning companies will also participate in working groups with other partners already involved in the sessions.

In addition, selected companies can take advice from the Real Sociedad advisory board, participate in major international events and form the contact network of the GSIC ecosystem.
