Meet the Projects: Tampere’s Tre Arena

Tre Arena in Tampere, Finland will be one of many projects on show at this year’s TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit, and the facility will open up a visiting centre later this year to showcase itself to the public.

The centre will open at the end of 2018 and will be located in the premises of the old locomotive depot next to the Hotel Torni and will be open for the duration of the construction of the arena, which will have a capacity of 13,000.

The Tre Arena will become Finland’s largest sports and event arena and will host a range of events. The entire complex is due to be ready by 2023, although tentative agreements have been reached with the Tappara and Ilves ice hockey teams to begin playing at the arena from the 2021-22 season.

The new visiting centre will present the project of the arena together with its key partners. Key partners currently include Restamax, Lapland Hotels, Veikkaus and the aforementioned Tappara and Ilves, which compete in the Finnish Elite League.

“We want to offer our partners, stakeholders and especially the people of Tampere an opportunity and facilities to get to know the building project during the following years,” Kari Mäkelä, project development director of SRV, the construction company leading the project, said.

An opening date for the visiting centre will be confirmed in due course.

The arena is one of more than 50 new stadium and arena projects being represented at this year’s Design and Development Summit. A full delegation from the city of Tampere and the development company will be there.
