Hilton adds Silverstone to sporting portfolio

Hilton is to open its first hotel at a UK motorsport venue after partnering with Northamptonshire-based circuit Silverstone.

The 197-guestroom Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone hotel is scheduled to open in 2020. Hilton has signed a management agreement with Bricks Capital Ltd to open the hotel, which will include a rooftop terrace.

Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone will provide race-day hospitality experiences for all major sporting events held at the venue, which is the home of the Formula One and MotoGP British Grands Prix.

The hotel will seek to enhance Silverstone’s offering outside of the race calendar and will provide direct access, via a cross-circuit footbridge, to The Silverstone Wing Conference Centre. The Conference Centre is Silverstone’s event venue and has a capacity of 3,000.

Graham Dodd, Hilton’s managing director, development, UK & Ireland, told TheStadiumBusiness.com: “Silverstone Circuit is the home of British motorsport, and is a fitting location to open our first motorsport venue hotel in the UK. There is significant demand for a hotel of this calibre at this iconic racetrack and its award-winning conference centre The Wing, which host races and events throughout the year.

“Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone, alongside our arena hotels at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl and Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, among others offer guests extensive views of the sporting action, whether from their own guestrooms or with a full hospitality experience in the hotels’ lounges and outside terraces. These hotels also drive venue conference & events business, offering a hospitable place to stay for delegates and a unique and interesting guest experience.”

Dodd added: “Hilton has strong momentum in developing hotels in leading sporting venues. Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone will join Hilton Baku and Hilton Singapore, with trackside views of some of the world’s highest profile motor races. Also this week we opened Hilton Garden Inn Doncaster Racecourse at the Yorkshire racing ground and we continue to look for opportunities to develop hotels at other leading UK sporting venues.”

The hotel will be situated on Silverstone’s International Pits straight and provide extensive views over the track. Its rooftop terrace will feature a restaurant and coffee shop, while guestroom balconies will also provide views of the circuit.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice-president of development, EMEA, for Silverstone, said: “Hilton embodies the venue’s racing legacy with a long-standing partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 team. We are privileged to open a hotel in such a prominent location on the circuit and we cannot wait to begin welcoming guests to this iconic location.”
