Race of Champions to break new ground with Mexico event

The Race of Champions motorsport event is to travel to Latin America for the first time, with Mexico City’s Foro Sol amphitheatre to play host next year.

The event will be held on January 19-20 at the Foro Sol, which forms part of Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Formula One circuit.

The Race of Champions features drivers from F1, Nascar, World Rally Championship, IndyCar and other series, and has been held in a number of locations around the world.

This year’s Race of Champions was held at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while Marlins Park, London Stadium, Wembley, Beijing National Stadium and the Stade de France have also hosted the event in the past.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez venue is also used as a stadium for baseball matches and rock concerts. For next year’s Race of Champions, a purpose-built track will be constructed within the Foro Sol. The event will also feature stunt shows, DJ sets, cheerleaders and other entertainment.

ROC president Fredrik Johnsson said: “The Foro Sol is an incredible arena to watch motorsport, and it’s no surprise that it has already reached iconic status with fans of Formula 1. It is a perfect location for ROC Mexico, where the greats of motorsport will show off all their skills in identical supercars on our purpose-built track.

“Rest assured we will put together a memorable event for fans of fast cars and even faster drivers. Mexican race fans are passionate about their sport and I’m sure they will enjoy the competition and shows we put on – with a perfect view of all the action from every seat. So we look forward to welcoming a packed crowd to enjoy the sights and sounds of some of the world’s best drivers battling it out. If you’re into non-stop action and excitement, the Race of Champions is the ideal event for you.”
