Bury FC’s Gigg Lane stadium will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy thanks to a new naming-rights partnership between the club and Planet-U Energy.
The Leeds-based renewable green energy supplier has signed a five-year deal to become the title partner of the League Two club’s stadium. The venue will officially be known as the Planet-U Energy Stadium.
It is hoped the partnership will support Bury’s bid for promotion to League One, while also saving the club money in the process.
Fans will be given the chance to be involved with the club’s renewable energy initiatives as part of the agreement.
Grant Nicholson (right of picture), Planet-U Energy chief executive, said: “We are very proud and excited to be associated with Bury FC. This title sponsorship gives us a platform to support the team whilst driving awareness and growth for the Planet-U Energy brand. We are looking forward to a successful working relationship, delivering 100 percent renewable energy for the team.”
Matthew McCarthy (left of picture), Bury FC director, added: “We are very excited to welcome such an ambitious and fast-growing business into the ever-growing commercial family here at Bury FC. This is a landmark deal for not only the football club but also for League Two. We are looking forward to developing a successful relationship together. While it is still early days this partnership is another positive step in the club’s continued growth and an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a brand that shares our core values.”
Bury is currently second in League Two after 33 games of the 2018-19 season. The club has played at the 11,800-seat Gigg Lane since 1885.
