New Zealand Warriors claim first with mini-golf course

Rugby league team the New Zealand Warriors has announced that a mini-golf course will be added to Mt Smart Stadium during this weekend’s season opener against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

The Auckland-based club said the course will mark the first of its kind in New Zealand. The initiative is designed to enhance the game-day experience for supporters at the 30,000-seat stadium.

The course has been designed and built by home improvement store chain Mitre 10, a sponsor of the Warriors since 2018.

Warriors chief executive Cameron George said: “We’ve set ourselves the challenge of delivering wow moments to our fans on game day this year. We are confident we will deliver on that promise this weekend. The Mitre 10 Mini Golf is truly unique and we can’t wait to see our fans playing on it this Saturday.”

The match will kick off at 5pm and has been billed as the club’s annual “Old Boys’ Day” with a cast of around 40 former players to form part of the celebrations as the Warriors begin their 25th season.

The Warriors have also revamped the Woodstock bar and the members’ clubrooms at the stadium ahead of the new season.

The Warriors are the only New Zealand-based team in the Australian NRL.
