Major League Baseball team the San Diego Padres has revealed plans to build a new concert venue at Petco Park.
The 6,000-capacity Sycuan Stage will be situated at Petco’s Park at the Park, a grassy area behind centre-field that is open to the public on non-game days. It will host a minimum of eight national touring acts per year.
The venue will be built as part of the Padres’ partnership with live entertainment specialist Live Nation. The club said the stage will mark the first of its kind for an MLB ballpark.
Erik Greupner, the Padres’ president of business operations, said: “Petco Park is more than a ballpark and has become San Diego’s premier entertainment venue.
“In addition to our award-winning Padres game-day experience, we are proud to partner with Live Nation to bring some of the hottest musical acts to the Sycuan Stage at Park at the Park. This one-of-a-kind venue is the latest step in making Petco Park a world-class entertainment destination.”
The Sycuan Stage will feature a state-of-the-art roof system that can withstand more than 90,000 pounds of production, allowing the stage to be customised at the request of artists.
The 2019 Sycuan Stage line-up commences with LED’s My Life Every Day Memorial Day festival on May 25-26.
