Contractor selected for Zagłębiowski Park Sportowy

A contractor has been selected to develop a new football stadium that will be part of a sports park project in the Polish city of Sosnowiec.

Zagłębiowski Park Sportowy will house a new stadium for Ekstraklasa football club Zagłębie Sosnowiec, along with a winter sports stadium and an arena. With JSK Architekci having already won a competition for the design of the facilities, city authorities have now held an electronic auction process to determine the contractor of the football stadium.

The process completed yesterday (Monday) comes after a failed attempt to find a partner back in February. At that time, the authorities had targeted a budget of just over PLN 202m (£40.8m/€47.2m/$53.4m) for the three facilities. However, the bids significantly exceeded this mark forcing a new tender.

The Naszemiasto.pl website has now said Bielskie Przedsiębiorstwo Budownictwa Przemysłowego SA has secured the contract for the football stadium with an offer of PLN 147.9m. Arkadiusz Chęciński, President of Sosnowiec, said: “The best offer amounts to just over PLN 120m net (PLN 147.9m gross), so it is much smaller than at the previous opening of offers.

“Now is the time for formalities, and if everything goes our way, the contract will be signed at the turn of April and May.”

A tender for the project’s other two facilities is still pending, with Chęciński stating this is set to be launched at the end of May. A timeline of two and a half years has been set for construction of Zagłębiowski Park Sportowy.

Zagłębie Sosnowiec currently plays at the 7,500-capacity Stadion Ludowy.
