Appointments round-up: MCC, Jockey Club, SeatGeek and more

Earlier this week, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) announced Kumar Sangakkara as its first non-British president, with the former Sri Lankan international to take up the role on October 1.

The MCC operates Lord’s Cricket Ground, which will host the final of this year’s Cricket World Cup. Sangakkara will serve for one year and his nomination was announced by current president Anthony Wreford at the MCC Annual General Meeting on May 1. His tenure will include two England Test matches against West Indies and Pakistan and the launch of The Hundred.

The Jockey Club is to appoint a new group chief executive after Simon Bazalgette (pictured) announced that he will stand down by the end of 2019. He has led the group, which owns 15 racecourses across the UK, for a decade.

The Jockey Club will be advised by executive search and talent advisory firm SRI in its search to find a replacement for Bazalgette. The company said there is a chance the successful candidate will be appointed from within.

Archie Fraser has been named as the chief executive of Macarthurd South West Sydney, which will enter Australia’s top-tier A-League football division next year. Fraser formerly served as head of the A-League and has also held roles with the Port Adelaide and North Melbourne AFL clubs and the Gold Coast Titans and Manly Sea Eagles NRL teams.

SeatGeek has named former Tumblr executive Brian Murphy as its new chief technology officer.
