Industry appointments round-up: Ryder Cup, UK Athletics, FlipTix and more

This week saw Richard Scudamore, the former executive chairman of football’s English Premier League, join the new Ryder Cup Committee, the aim of which will be to enhance the commercial and brand value of the iconic golf event.

The committee will also feature Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley; Ian Ritchie, chairman of Premiership Rugby and former chief executive of the Rugby Football Union and the All England Lawn Tennis Club; European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley; and European Tour deputy chief executive Guy Kinnings.

The committee will seek to build on the foundations built in their sporting and business careers to further grow the appeal of the Ryder Cup.

UK Athletics has confirmed the appointment of Chris Clark as its new chair. The appointment has been made following the unanimous recommendation of the Athletics Appointment Panel and has been approved by the UKA Board.

Clark (pictured above) formerly served as head of global marketing at HSBC, developing key relationships with rightsholders, governing bodies and marketing agencies to expand the company’s brand across sport.

Clark joins UK Athletics on July 1 and will be working with interim chair Sarah Rowell, the Board and the senior executive team on a managed transition over the summer.

Ticketing app FlipTix, which allows ticket holders to ‘flip’ tickets if they leave events early, has hired Ashley Carpenter as its vice-president of new business.

Carpenter will be based in Austin, Texas and will work with major North American festivals to integrate FlipTix technology and to pursue additional live event sectors that are positioned to benefit from new sales based on the early departure of fans.

Carpenter previously worked for Front Gate Tickets, where she served as director of business development.

Jennifer Germer has joined XFL Houston as marketing director of the American football team.

Germer formerly worked for Major League Baseball team the Houston Astros. In her new role, she will lead XFL Houston’s marketing and community relations, including integrated marketing functions, brand marketing, digital and social marketing, fan engagement and activations.
