Sporting KC introduces mobile ordering

Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City has become the latest North American sports franchise to announce the launch of a stadium-wide mobile ordering service.

Available via the Sporting KC mobile application, the service will allow fans to order food, drinks and retail products before selecting a chosen pick-up point around the team’s home stadium, Children’s Mercy Park.

Food and drink orders can be picked up from a total of five locations, with one location for the retail products.

Users will receive a text message when their items are ready to collect and will be able to skip the standard queues.

The initiative marks the latest technological scheme at the stadium, which opened in 2011 and has a capacity of 18,400.

In April, the franchise announced a partnership with Daktronics to install new LED boards and a dynamic digital display at the venue.

The pitch is now surrounded on the north, east and south sides by 2.5-feet-high LED field boards that showcase immersive, synchronised content during matches.

A new 3.5-feet-high by 15.5-feet-wide digital display has also been fitted in the tunnel area in the stadium’s southeast corner.
