Eden Park claims first with Airbnb in-stadium glamping domes

Eden Park has teamed up with Airbnb to bring stadium ‘glamping’ to New Zealand’s 60,000-capacity national stadium, in what it claims as a first-of-its-kind across stadia.

Through the deal with the hospitality giant fans have the opportunity to stay in two domes in the stadium on match days or non-match days.

The custom-designed domes are located in the stadium’s north-eastern corner and provide guests with a floor-to-ceiling view of the field, a TV, bed, heating and a bathroom.

Visitors staying in the domes will also receive a welcome basket and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Eden Park.

Eden Park chief executive Nick Sautner said the accommodation set-up is the first of its kind across stadia globally.

He said: “Eden Park is a strategic asset for New Zealand as well as a community asset for Auckland, and we look forward to providing unforgettable experiences around the clock with Staydium Glamping.”

Bookings through Airbnb will be available from August 18 onwards, with the price for one night for two adults starting at NZ$517 (£280/$350).

Pricing for big events will see huge inflation, with the Rugby League triple header on November 2 costing upwards of NZ$2,871, while both the T20 cricket matches in December will cost NZ$1,773 for a one-night stay.

Airbnb spokesperson Brent Thomas said: “We’re thrilled to team up with Eden Park to make this available to guests, giving visitors a chance to spend the night in this iconic national stadium steeped in so much sporting history.”
