Daktronics expands college stadia portfolio

Charleston Southern University (CSU) has teamed up with Daktronics to add new LED video displays and a new sound system to Buccaneer Field.

The 4,000-seat stadium in South Carolina will see a new end zone display and rear-facing display installed in 2019 to boost the game-day experience for fans and student-athletes.

The main video display will measure 22 feet high by 52 feet wide, while the rear-facing message display will feature 19-millimetre line spacing and will measure 12 feet high by 24 feet wide. This display will help share messages of upcoming events and highlight university sponsors.

CSU Athletic Director Jeff Barber said: “We talk a lot about the little things we are doing to improve our department, but this addition to both football and track doesn’t fall under that category.

“This new video board will be a game changer not only for the fan experience but also for sponsorships. With the addition of player introductions, fan cams, games and in-game graphic elements, the football game experience at Buccaneer Field will be outstanding. I hope that our fans will see this new addition as another commitment to CSU building a national-calibre football programme.”

A new audio system will be integrated into the video and scoring system at Buccaneer Field, which will provide full-range sound reproduction and clear and intelligible speech.

Corey Williams, Daktronics sales representative, said: “We’re honoured to have this opportunity to be working with Charleston Southern University on their new football scoreboard and sound system project. The addition of this new equipment will enhance the atmosphere and create more opportunities for fan engagement at Buccaneer Field. We’re looking forward to seeing everything up and running for their first home game of the season.”

The main display features variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or multiple zones of content such as live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

Daktronics will also be including its Show Control System with this installation, which is a combination of display control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.
