Leicester City promises to light up King Power Stadium

Leicester City FC has installed upgrades to its lighting facilities to boost the matchday experience at King Power Stadium ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The new LED pitch lighting will “add a new dimension to matchday entertainment,” the Premier League club said, as it promised special displays ahead of evening games.

Final calibration and testing of the new system at the 32,300-capacity stadium will take place this week in the build up to the season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 11.

Installation of the permanent system was completed over the weekend. Temporary floodlights were in operation for Friday’s pre-season friendly against Atalanta.

A Leicester spokesperson said: “As has been the case with the new screens, among the largest and most immersive in the Premier League, the new LED pitch lighting will add a new dimension to matchday entertainment, with instant illumination creating the opportunity for lighting special effects ahead of matches after dark.”

The investment in new lighting follows the installation of two giant LED screens in the bowl less than a year ago.
