Leicester Tigers stadium goes cashless

English Premiership rugby union team Leicester Tigers has announced plans to make Welford Road a cashless stadium from next season as part of plans to provide a better service for supporters.

The move comes after supporters raised concerns over waiting times and customer service levels in catering and bar areas at Welford Road. The club has worked with new catering partner Levy UK over the summer on improvements to the infrastructure around bars and food areas to improve service on match days.

As a result, card and contactless payment will be the only method of payment available at all bars and food kiosks, including hospitality lounges. Extra paypoints have been added in areas around the stadium and these will replace Swipestation units. Payments will be provided by Global Payments, which also serves as an official club partner.

Welford Road will also continue to operate its long-established cup return system, with the deposit for reusable cups refunded to the payment card used on their return post-match.

The move comes after Premier League football club Leicester City last month announced plans to operate completely cashless concourses at King Power Stadium during the 2019-20 season.

Leicester Tigers appointed Levy UK as the official caterers at Welford Road back in May, with the company having been tasked with overhauling matchday and non-matchday catering operations at the ground.
