Flyers launch kids-focused ‘Gritty’ space at Wells Fargo Center

The Philadelphia Flyers NHL ice hockey franchise has unveiled a new immersive fan experience at Wells Fargo Center that allows fans to be “grittified” to look like the team’s mascot.

The Gritty C.O.M.M.A.N.D. Center debuts at Wells Fargo Center tomorrow (Wednesday) and has been designed for the “young and young at heart”. The space will feature professional stylists that will provide makeovers for fans centred on the Flyers’ mascot, Gritty, a seven-foot furry creature that can be seen around Wells Fargo Center on game days.

The Flyers said the space will offer a “first-ever peek into Gritty’s world” as fans are able to get their hair dyed orange and face painted. Hair extensions and wigs will also be offered, while fans will also be given the chance to be blasted with orange “Grit Powder”.

A select number of “Total Gritty” makeovers will also be available, with style treatments beginning at $10. The Gritty C.O.M.M.A.N.D. Center will be located on the northeast side of the arena’s main concourse outside Section 118.

Valerie Camillo, president of business operations for the Flyers and Wells Fargo Center, said: “For the coming season, we’ve rolled out new, first-of-their-kind experiences for millennials, gamers, foodies, and hardcore fans at the Wells Fargo Center. The Gritty C.O.M.M.A.N.D. Center is our latest concept with a clear focus on enhancing the game-day experience for families and kids.”

The space is the latest instalment of Comcast Spectacor’s $265m (£217m/€242m), multi-year renovation project at Wells Fargo Center. Previous announcements include the world’s first Kinetic 4K centre-hung scoreboard, a redesigned concourse and the new Center City Club. The arena also recently opened a new pro-level esports space.
