Supponor lands Barcelona deal

Technology company Supponor, which specialises in sports virtual advertising, has entered into a partnership with Spanish LaLiga football club Barcelona.

As part of the long-term agreement, Supponor will provide Barcelona’s virtual advertising technology for all matches played at the Camp Nou stadium.

The technology allows for different pitch-side LED adverts to be shown depending on where fans are watching the game on television. Advertising seen by overseas fans will be different to that seen by fans at the Camp Nou or those watching domestic television coverage of matches.

Supponor chief executive James B Gambrell said, according to the Advanced Television website: “After intensely researching and developing our technology for the past 15 years it is now proven and commercially deployed with many leading clubs, leagues and federations.

“As one of the most influential clubs in world football, we are delighted to be part of FC Barcelona’s rapidly growing international reach as Barca continues to consolidate its brand positioning in key international markets. It is set to achieve its historic goal of exceeding €1bn in annual revenues at the same time as joining our growing roster of clients.”

Supponor has an existing partnership with LaLiga, for whom it provides production of key away matches featuring leading clubs.
