Vodafone extends backing of revamped Fiji arena

Telecommunications company Vodafone has renewed its sponsorship of the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.

The FBC News website reports that Vodafone has signed a new three-year naming-rights deal with the Fiji Sports Council, which owns the arena.

The new deal comes on the back of significant renovation work at the arena, which was reopened last week by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama. Improvements include new wooden flooring, screens and the addition of two multi-purpose indoor halls.

The work is designed to enhance the arena’s ability to host more major sports competitions, with FBC News noting that the facility is now suitable for the Oceania Championships multi-sport event.

Bainimarama said: “Given that the last works were completed 15 years ago we’ve put in the time and resources to make ensure this facility is built to last. We are not repeating past mistakes, instead we have redeveloped this arena in a manner that makes future expansion works far easier and affordable.”
