Appointments Round-Up: Lions, NEC Group, 23 Capital

Tom Halsey (pictured inset) has been unveiled as the new commercial director of the British & Irish Lions.

Halsey, who will report to managing director Ben Calveley, joins the Lions after seven years at the Rugby Football Union, rugby union’s governing body in England, where he served as head of business development.

Prior to joining the RFU, Halsey worked as head of commercial partnerships at UK Sport, head of sponsorship at Wembley Stadium and senior sponsorship manager at the Football Association.

As preparations step up for the 2021 tour to South Africa, the Lions have also appointed Alan Phillips as operations director.

Meanwhile Alan Maynard has joined NEC Group as chief development officer, completing a board reshuffle that also led to the recent appointment of Richard Ashton as chief finance officer.

Maynard, who spent 12 years as a partner and finance director at Darwin Private Equity, will help to spearhead the group’s masterplan for the 611-acre NEC complex in Birmingham, UK – one of the country’s leading exhibition and event spaces.

In other news, Sreesha Vaman has been appointed managing director and head of capital markets at 23 Capital, a leading capital and solutions provider focused exclusively on the sports, music and entertainment sectors.

Vaman has more than 15 years of experience across the finance, investment banking, sports and entertainment landscape and is joining the team’s New York office.
