Appointments round-up: AEG Presents, FFA, World Games and more

This week saw AEG Presents promote Debra Rathwell to executive vice-president of global touring and talent.

Rathwell (pictured) joined AEG as senior vice-president in 2002 to open the sports and entertainment giant’s New York office. She currently promotes tours for Elton John, Lorde, Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood and JoJo Siwa, among others.

Rathwell, who became senior vice-president of the newly-created Global Touring and Talent department in 2018, will continue to be based in New York. The appointment was made by Gary Cersh, president of global touring and talent for AEG Presents.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has named James Johnson as its new chief executive, replacing David Gallop, who is stepping down from the role on December 31.

Johnson, who most recently served as senior vice-president of external affairs at the City Football Group (CFG), will commence his new role in January. Johnson has also worked for FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation and Professional Footballers Australia.

The FFA announced that Gallop would be stepping down back in July. He first joined the organisation in 2012 after previously serving as chief executive of the National Rugby League (NRL).

The board of directors for the 2021 edition of the World Games have named Nick Sellers as chief executive of the multi-sport event, which will be held in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sellers will replace DJ Mackovets, who recently resigned from the role. Sellers has spent the past 16 years holding a variety of leadership positions with Alabama Power and Southern Company, most recently serving as vice-president of the Mobile Division at Alabama Power.

Chris Carey has joined TicketSwap as the company’s head of international marketing.

Carey is the founder and chief executive of Media Insight Consulting and has worked with clients such as Spotify, Sony and The O2.

Ed Walsh has been named strategic commercial director at music festival experience platform Festicket.

Walsh joins Festicket from Eventbrite, where he spent over two years as music account director, developing its overarching music accounts strategy. He also has experience at NVS Music Group, Broadwick Live and Mainstage Travel.
