Appointments round-up: UK Athletics, Eventim UK, Ticketmaster and more

This week saw Joanna Adams named as the new chief executive of the UK Athletics national governing body.

Adams (pictured) served as chief executive of England Netball from 2015 to 2019 and in August was appointed as the London Legacy Development Corporation’s (LLDC) first chief commercial officer.

Her appointment as chief executive of UK Athletics will coincide with the stepping aside of Chris Clark as the body’s chair. Clark will become an advisor to the UK Athletics board and will take on the development of a commercial plan for the sport.

Nic Coward, UK Athletics’ interim chief executive, will assume the role of chair until the end of the year to ensure stability for the body during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Eventim UK has announced John Gibson as its new managing director.

The 52-year-old recently took up the role at the company, which is a 100-per-cent subsidiary of Germany-based CTS Eventim. Gibson joins Eventim UK from online marketplace Groupon UK, where he headed up its live ticketing business across the EMEA region.

Gibson has previously held senior positions at SeatGeek Entertainment, Vivaticket, Ticketmaster UK and SEE Tickets.

Chad Phillips, the former managing director of APACTix, has been appointed to the newly-created role of managing director at Ticketmaster Asia.

The move comes after Ticketmaster announced that it would be expanding into Asia through the acquisition of Tixcraft in Taiwan and the launch of Ticketmaster Singapore.

Full details of Ticketmaster’s Asian expansion can be found on TheTicketingBusiness.com.

Eventbrite has named Tom Freeman as its new head of business development in New Zealand.

Freeman joined the ticketing and event technology firm in 2018 as senior business development manager. Eventbrite has had a localised platform in New Zealand since 2017.

Somerset County Cricket Club has appointed Gordon Hollins as its new chief executive.

Hollins, who most recently served as the chief operating officer and managing director of county cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), will take up his new role on March 16.

Somerset said Hollins was appointed following an extensive selection process and proved to be the “unanimous” choice for the club’s new chief executive.

Secondary ticketing marketplace TickPick has hired Jim Halliday as its first chief marketing officer.

Halliday will oversee TickPick’s overall marketing operations and lead efforts to promote its no-hidden-fees model to eventgoers. He joins TickPick after spending two years at Plated, a national meal kit subscription service, where he also served as chief marketing officer.

Halliday previously spent three years at home goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond. He began his career at Procter & Gamble and later worked at consulting firm Rosetta Marketing.
